First fake 3G iPhone pictures to actually trick people?

We just got done saying that the 3G iPhone leaks were going to be getting a whole lot meatier — and now we have the pictures to prove it.

Tonight, an anonymous tipster sent some supposed 3G iPhone promo images to a bunch of gadget/Apple sites.

CrunchGear thinks they’re real, Engadget is positive they’re fake. They do seem pretty well done except that the red iPhone appears to be missing the button on the top (which the black one has).

This could just be a case of everyone getting all excited because these pictures show a feature that many people want in the device: Live video streaming. This would be done via a new iChat application on the device, as has been previously rumored. The pictures also seem to indicate that the iChat application would be coming to Windows-based computers — perhaps a crazy notion before Apple released its Safari web browser for Windows last year, but certainly not out of the realm of possibility now.

Check the pictures (there are eight of them) out for yourself in this Flickr group.

Because BoomTown always has a lot to say, getting a call from American Public Media’s Marketplace Morning radio show to pontificate on the Microsoft-Yahoo-Carl Icahn takeover drama was too tasty to pass up.

We also talked a bit about the upcoming Apple unveiling of its 3G iPhone.

It might become a regular visit for me, so take a listen to my chat with the sharp Renita Jablonski and let me know what you think.

Here’s the podcast:

iPhone 2 Leaked Pics (?) Show 3G Video Calling With Other Phones and iChat, Plus (RED) Version [3g Iphone]

These leaked pics from what looks like some sort of Apple or AT&T marketing material give up lots more information on the phone, including (if it's real) what the final shape is going to look like. Both the standard black version and the project (RED) version have tapered edges, which match the "thinner" rumors, and a fatter middle, which match the "slightly thicker" rumors. Other than that, the general shape and button design seem the same. What's really cool is the front camera, which allow for video calls.

See you soon Carlos!

What's black and red and bruised all over? A penguin rolling down a rocky hill.

I'm glad we didn't see the rest of Carlos's chat with this lady.
END

The 3G video chat allows iPhone to iPhone video communications on the fly via the front camera. According to the text, you can also chat with your iChat buddies if you're using Wi-Fi as well. Hot. Hit up Crunchgear for the rest of the pics. The only weirdness that we can see is that the (RED) version has no power toggle. Here's hoping these leaked pics are real, because we're really stoked about that video conferencing feature (3G iPhone toilet chats here we come!). Who knows if they ARE real, however, since they can be faked in Illustrator and then taken pics of with an iPhone camera.

Update: That footnote on the iChat image says to us that iChat is coming for the iPhone (text chat and video chat) AND Windows, with XP2 and Vista as a base requirement. iChat on Windows. That's not unbelievable, following in the steps of Safari this past year. Only makes sense that Apple would want Windows users being able to Wi-Fi video chat with their iPhone buddies. Another dumb iPhone rumors, this time it contains photos

MacRumors got sent a bunch of images of images. How do you like that one? They appear to depict the new 3G iPhone, and what’s the 3G iPhone got in store for us supposedly? IChat over 3G and Wi-Fi, a 32GB model, front-facing camera, MMS, video recording, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Supposedly. BGR buddy Ryan from Engadget and myself aren’t too convinced, though. Thoughts?
